The Notebook

My wife and I just finished watching the Notebook, the film version of Nicholas Sparks's novel, starring Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams.

We were horrified by what we saw. Both of us read the book first, nearly five years ago, and fell completely in love with the story and the characters. For anyone else who has read the book first, DO NOT SEE THE MOVIE. I would compare my reaction (and feelings of betrayal) to my viewing a bastardized version of Atlas Shrugged. "Watered-down" would be a compliment for this movie.

I understand that several Objectivists really enjoyed this movie, from which I infer that they haven't read the book. I can see how certain elements in the movie would lead the uninformed viewer to that conclusion. But for me, this movie was trash, the worst movie I've seen this year. Caveat emptor!
